Bedworth United end the season in entertaining fashion, with a 2-2 draw against Mickleover.
The hosts had the opening chance of the game, a sight we have seen so often this season, a long throw from Ben Blakely was headed goalwards by Elliot Parrott but Mickleover keeper Jack McDowell did well to tip away from danger.
On the 25th minute, Teddy Rowe was brilliantly denied by keeper Jack McDowell. Another Blakely throw was flicked on by Matt Shipman, onto Teddy Rowe, who was unmarked and the smallest player on the pitch was able to win his header and aim it for the top corner but McDowell excellently tipped the ball on the crossbar and was eventually cleared.
Micklover had their own chance a few minutes later. A free kick swung in by Danny Gordon was met by George Wilkinson, he got there before Will Highland but couldn’t keep his header down.
And just before the half time break, Bedworth took the lead. Matthew Shipman did brilliantly to get past his man and cut back to Teddy Rowe who side footed powerfully passed the keeper to make it 1-0.
HALF TIME: Bedworth United 1-0 Micklover
The Greenbacks started the second half quickly and were awarded a penalty. Shipman put through Teddy Rowe with just the keeper to beat but was brought down in the penalty area. Samson Hewett stepped up and smashed his penalty down the right hand side sending then keeper the wrong way. 2-0.
Mickleover responded quickly and got one back through Manni Norkett. The forward raced through on goal with Harry Craven putting pressure on but Norkett from a tight angle finished convincingly off the post to make it 2-1.
Second half was much more entertaining and chances were in full flow. And on 63rd minute the Greenbacks should have re-established a 2 goal lead. Charlie Gordon delivered a dangerous cross from the left, Shipman missed it but Teddy Rowe was there to follow up but he missed from just 2 yards out.
Charlie Gordon was causing problems and delivered another brilliant cross for Shipman but his header from just a few yards out couldn’t be kept down and the ball just went over.
But against the run of play, Mickleover equalised on the 78th minute. A shot from the edge of the box from Andy Dales went through a few Bedworth bodies and the ball squeezed past Will Highland and scrambled over the line to make it 2-2.
The hosts really should have won the game on the balance of play but settle for a draw in a match that didn’t have anything riding on it.
A brilliant second half of the season see Bedworth safe and finish on 50 points from 42 games. A great turnaround from the start of the season and massive credit to joint managers Andy Penny and Jamie Lenton.
