U21’s Match report – Bedworth United U21’s 3 – 1 Pelsall Villa U21’s

Bedworth United U21’s 3 – 1 Pelsall Villa U21’s

The young greenbacks lined up again yesterday morning against a Pelsall team that statistically perform well away from home

Pelsall made their presence felt in the opening seconds of the game, putting two Bedworth players on the floor and forcing a third off the pitch with an early injury, without 90 seconds played.

Bedworth struggled to get the ball down and play against a hardworking and physical team leaving little time on the ball and little time to reorganise during transitions.

Periods of possession were enjoyed by both teams but only in their own halves as both teams managed their half spaces well, working hard to deny their opposition any opportunity to play through their lines.

It was this dropping and shuffling by Pelsall that left a central shooting opportunity from distance for Brandrick, who didn’t need inviting twice. A right foot shot whistled past the Pelsall keeper from a full 35 yards out to give Bedworth a deserved lead in the 17th minute.

Later Pelsall took advantage of a minor break in Bedworth positioning, playing some neat 1-2’s to get behind our defence and beat Moss from short range to equalise on the stroke of half time.

The half-time team talk was inclusive and centred on the need to match the physicality and then move the ball quicker.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United U21’s 1 – 1 Pelsall Villa U21’s

The second half picked up where the first half left off with both teams trying to control possession and the tempo of the game, by competing for the ball and then moving it quickly forwards and sideways to find or create gaps.

Neat interplay down the Bedworth right in the 67th minute created enough space for Newton to lift his head and see another Bedworth opportunity from distance. A perfectly struck shot from Newton, beat the Pelsall keeper again from fully 30 yards out, to make the score 2-1

The Bedworth substitutes continued to roll on and off as the game was controlled, and this reshuffling was managed well by the boys, resulting in Brandrick finding himself in the box in the 87th minute to nod home a cross from the left wing.

Overall, a good result as we saw hints of what these boys are capable of. We go again next week.
