Youth Team March On

Bedworth United U18s Youth Team carried on their winning ways last Wednesday night when they hosted Coventry United,  This season Coventry United are tennant’s at The OVAL playing their home games here so home advantage was not going to be as much of an advantage as it could be for the Bedworth Lads.
Bedworth started well but were finding it hard to breach the 5 man defence of Coventry United who were set up to ensure that they got men behind the ball at every opportunity. Saying that though Bedworth did have the better of the chances but it seemed that shooting boots had been left at home with some gilt edged chances going begging.
Bedworth did eventually break Coventry United’s rear guard action when Rory Faulkner broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark, chances went begging as the halftime whistle blew ( 1-0 )
The second half started in much the same way as the first finished with Bedworth on the front foot and it didnt take long for Chris Jones to add to The Greenbacks lead to put Bedworth 2-0 up, then minutes later Jack Wells rose highest to head a third, This seemed to stir Coventry United into life and they started to become more of an attacking threat and this led to them being awarded a penalty but Owen Betteridge in the Bedworth goal guessed the right way and kept Bedworth 3-0 in front.  Coventry United did manage to get themselves on the score sheet with about 20 minutes still to play. Cov Uniteds fightback though didnt last long as Chris Jones scored a forth goal to stop the visitors in their tracks. With minutes left on the clock Bedworth made it 5 when Cameron Dunne having the final say on the night.
Lee Hurst after the game stated “I am happy with today’s result in the end but we made the game a lot more difficult than it should have been with the chances we missed early on, but to be honest some of the combination play and runs in behind to create these chances were exceptional, we were a lot more clinical in the 2nd half which shows the character and resilience of the team,
Overall very pleased with the result.
Bedworth United U18 5
Coventry United U18 1
Scorers : Rory Faulkner, Jack Wells, Chris Jones 2, Cameron Dunne
The U18s next game is an away trip to Rugby Borough who are the only other unbeaten team in Group D.  A win there will see the Greenback U18s place 1 foot firmly in the knock out stages of the Tournament.
