The U18’s carried on their impressive season last night with a hard fought 3-2 victory against Sutton Coldfield Town. In a feisty game The Young Greenbacks took the lead early in the first half when from a corner a goalmouth scramble ensued and ended with Finn Conway poked the ball home to make it 1 nil. Dale Freeman then made 2 impressive saves to keep Bedworths lead and when Liam Murphy added a 2nd after heading in a well delivered Cameron Dunn free kick it looked like it was going to be plain sailing for the lads in the green but Sutton halved the lead towards the end of the half and started to gain a foothold and it was Bedworth who were more thankful for the halftime whistle.
The second half saw Sutton come out desperate to equalise and take the game to penalties but thanks to another Liam Murphy goal The Greenbacks took a 3-1 lead. The drama wasn’t over there with roughly 5 minutes to play Sutton again got one back leading to a frantic last few minutes but Bedworth survived and made their way to the final much to the disgust of the Sutton skipper who tried to launch the matchball out the ground but failed miserably.
In the other semi-final Rugby Town were victorious against Leamington after a 5-4 penalty shoot out win
The final is to be played at Redditch United on Friday 6th May 7.45pm kickoff
