The U18s completed a historic league and cup double in dramatic circumstances on Friday night.
The Greenbacks lads battled the M42 traffic to get to Redditchs Trico stadium both teams started nervously with neither managing to exert any real pressure on the others back line. The Greenbacks took the lead on the half hour point and went in at half time knowing that if they kept a clean sheet then the win would be theirs. Rugby came out the second half a different team and had an early chance to equalise, Bedworth though came back into the game and but for the woodwork and a goal line clearance would have been home and dry, It was rugby though who equalised with 15 minutes to go, this lifted Rugby and with time ticking down in the 90th minute they could have took the win when clean through the Rugby striker fired over. With the referee stating 4 minutes added on both benches were discussing penalties. It was a penalty though that decided the game but not in a shootout. With less than 30 seconds on the clock Bedworth broke and a Rugby player caught the wrong side had no choice but to make a challenge and in doing so give the referee no option but to point to the spot. With 30 seconds on the clock the penalty was duly dispatched to send Rugby home heartbroken and the Greenbacks home with the silverware.
