Todays Home Game – John Roberts Memorial Game

Todays 1st team home match V Boldmere St Michaels 3pm kick off

Today we celebrate the life of a true Greenback who held various posts here at Bedworth United ranging from Club Physio to Executive Director.

In John’s time at Bedworth he was instrumental in the Clubs progression. His precision and dedication to Health & Safety aspects was second to none coupled with Fire Safety makes The Oval the excellent and secure facility it is today. He was a Member of the Board who saw through the successful application for our excellent 3G Pitch.

John lived life to the full with many trips to the Battlefields of Europe with his Friends from DNR (standing for Do Not Resuscitate which can only be as a result of his wonderful sense of humour). He was an extremely accomplished Bass Player travelling Europe with Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band and actually played on the No1 hit Save Your Kisses for Me by the Brotherhood of Man.

He worked for many years for the NHS and attained a high level Physio Qualification working for the England Athletics Team.

John was an amazing influence around the Club and easily recognisable with his flowing white locks (who remembers Joey Boswell from the TV Series Bread). He was proud to be a ‘boy from Beduth’ and his approachable manner, level headed approach and incredible sense of humour has been sorely missed since his passing.

We welcome today his wife Sue with friends and family and hope they enjoy their time with us cheering on a Greenback’s win in John’s Memory.

I can only conclude by a parting comment of John’s ”Did you know I used to play in a Band
