Bedworth United v Newcastle Town (FA Cup Replay)
After the 1-1 draw at Newcastle on Saturday it was Bedworths turn to host. The Greenbacks started off the game on the front foot and created a couple of good chances but Joe Slinn the villain for Newcastle after his mistake cost them the goal on Saturday definitely redeemed himself in this game pulling off 2 good blocks and from Haddow and Edjenguele in the first 20 minutes. Bedworth were by far the better team in the opening exchanges with Newcastle struggling at times to get out of their own half and being restricted to long balls looking for the pace of Jayden Hunter. With 25 minutes played though it was the visitors that broke the deadlock when a break down the Bedworth right saw the ball fed into Ethan Vale arriving on the edge of the box who’s shot sneaked inside Sam Lomax right hand post to give the Visitors the lead. Newcastle for the next 10 minutes tried to drive their advantage home and had their best spell of the game but the hosts stood firm and the half time whistle came with Bedworth back on the front foot again.
Halftime Bedworth United 0 Newcastle Town 1
Bedworth came out the second half in much the same way as they started the first creating chances but again Slinn in the Newcastle goal was their saviour saving a 1 on 1 and then a Liam Lockett which he pushed round the post. Bedworth should have been awarded a penalty when Edjenguele was clearly brought down in the box at a corner, It seemed everyone in the crowd and on the benches saw it apart from the officials. Bedworth huffed and puffed throughout the second half and as chances came and went it looked like the Newcastle goal was leading a charmed life. The final whistle went and ended The Greenbacks dreams of Wembley for another season. It was the story of Bedworth’s season so far chances created but just not able to find that finishing touch to put teams away. We wish Newcastle all the best in the next round against Stafford Rangers.
