High flying Stamford were the visitors to The OVAL and were in buoyant mood after their 4-0 away victory against fellow playoff hopefuls Chasetown.  The Greenbacks have been on a wretched run of form lately and were looking to halt the slide into the bottom half of the table.  It was the visitors though who hit the ground running scoring within the first minute through Jack Duffy.  Stamford looked like they wanted to finish the game off early and kept the pressure up but the Greenbacks defence did well to repel the early onslaught.  Ishmael Dawson looked to be causing issues down the Stamford right and looked to have Connor Bartle beaten for pace whenever he got the chance which led to a number of Freekicks for the home side that they couldn’t capitalise on.  Bedworth were just building a slight head of steam when a long ball caused problems in the Bedworth defence and Jonathon Margetts was on hand to slot the ball home to make it 2-0 with 20 minutes played.  Things then went from hard to nigh on impossible for The home side when in the 36th minute Ryan Moore was sent off in controversial fashion after a close call he was deemed to be the last man and preventing a goal scoring opportunity (even though the referee first brandished his card at Owen Bennett (Only about a foot and 2 stone difference between them)?  After a restructure which saw Jack Wells replace Dawson Bedworth saw out the half with no further threats to their goal.

Half Time Bedworth United 0 Stamford Town 2

The second half was mainly a rear-guard action from the Greenbacks as you would expect being a man down against a strong physical Stamford side,  Bedworth did well holding out wave after wave of Stamford pressure but eventually cracked in the 73rd minute when Rodrigo Concalves netted for the visitors.  The Greenbacks tried a fight back but the man advantage was always going to be a mountain to high to climb.  Bedworth held out after more Stamford pressure and finished the game with no more goals against them.  True to his program notes Stu Storer blooded a couple of the U21 players with Jack Wells and James Sanderson both coming off the bench and Ethan Baynham named in the squad.
