Bedworth United’s poor form in 2023 continued with a 2-0 loss against Sutton Coldfield at The Oval. A Ryan Edmunds brace secured all three points for The Royals.
With Bedworth coming ever so close to claiming three points against Corby Town over the weekend, The Greenbacks were looking to put things right against fellow mid table side Sutton Coldfield. In contrast, Sutton Coldfield visited The Oval looking to make it back-to-back victories following their 1-0 win over Gresley Rovers.
In the opening minutes, Bedworth had a great chance to open the scoring. A well worked move saw Blythe play through wing back Lloyd who pulled the ball back from the byline and found fellow wing back Moore on the end of his pass but Moore blazed his effort over from 6 yards.
Bedworth continued their encouraging start, Blackmore pressed and won the won the ball deep in The Royals half and the ball found its way to Desean Martin, he unleashed a powerful shot that whistled just past the post.
The Greenbacks carried on their positive play with chances from Bailey-Nichols, that failed to test the keeper and a deflected Luke Rowe freekick that went inches over the bar and out for a corner.
On the 25th minute The Royals had their first attempt at goal. A mix up from Greenbacks keeper Lomax was intercepted by Edmunds who played the ball into the path of Bertie, he unleashed a fierce shot inside the area which was deflected and bounced off the bar.
Sutton Coldfield were having a good 10 minute spell and came close to opening the scoring, a deep cross towards the back post found captain Beresford who headed just over from close range.
But in the 34th minute, The Royals took the lead through winger Ryan Edmunds. A loose header from Elliot Parrott was seized upon by Ryan Edmunds, who composed himself and drilled his effort into the bottom left corner.
Despite the positive opening 20 minutes from Bedworth, Sutton Coldfield finished the half the stronger.

After a very quiet start to the second half, it took 15 minutes for The Greenbacks to create a chance, with Ryan Moore playing a through ball to Dunkley but The Royals keepers Jonathan Brown did well to smother the ball and not allow the forward to get a clean strike at goal.
But on the 75th minute Sutton Coldfield made it 2-0. Some nice wing play from Rhys Hilton down the left hand side resulted in his cross only being half cleared by Luke Rowe, which fell straight to the Ryan Edmunds who smashed into the net from close range.
Shortly after, Edmunds could have got his hattrick. A quick breakaway from the visitors saw a three on three attack vs defence scenario and the ball was passed into the path of winger Edmunds who slashed his shot wide.
In the 89th minute, The Royals keeper Jonathan Brown made an important double save. Liam Lockett created space for himself and cut in on his stronger right foot and curled a shot that look destined to go into the bottom corner by Brown was there to parry out to the edge of the box where Desean Martin followed up but Brown was there again to deny the midfielder.
The full time whistle blew and Sutton Coldfield leave The Oval with all three points and complete the double over The Greenbacks following their 4-0 victory earlier on in the season. The Royals climb above Bedworth United into 12th and seal back-to-back win.
Bedworth continue to look for their first win of 2023 with the next game not until 18th February.
