MATCH REPORT: Bedworth United 0-1 Shepshed Dynamo

Bedworth’s 4 match unbeaten run comes to an end with a 1-0 home defeat to Shepshed Dynamo.

The visitors nearly took the lead in the sixth minute. Mason Lee’s header from close range was cleared off the line by Parrott.

Bedworth had their first real chance after 12 minutes. A great long pass by Morley found Luke Rowe who knocked the ball into Leo Stone’s path, and the attacking midfielder drove into Shepshed’s box and unleashed a shot that was well saved by Ganley.

Shepshed came close mid-way through the first half. After The Greenbacks having a lot of possession, The Dynamo had a good phase of play and nearly led to a great goal. Shaquile Master’s long range effort drifted just wide of Crane’s post.

But Crane was called into action minutes later.  A quick corner from Shepshed resulted in a cross being delivered and The Dynamo’s captain Jordan Smith header looked bound for the back of the net, but Dan Crane showed great footwork to scramble across his line and claw the ball away for a corner.

The Greenbacks had their best chance of the half through Ryan Moore. Some nice interlinking play between Stone and Grocott enabled Grocott to send a low cross into the box and the onrushing Ryan Moore drilled his shot low and hard but a Shepshed defender was there to clear off the line.

Bedworth started the second half brightly and couldn’t believe they hadn’t taken a lead. A goal mouth scramble just couldn’t get turned in, with Star Mayemba and Grocott having attempts, the ball bounced out to Rowe on edge of the box and he unleashed a shot that smashed off the cross bar, in what would have been a contender for goal of the season if it had gone in.

From the resulting corner, The Greenbacks were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute. Blackmore was brought down just inside of the 18 yard box by a Shepshed defender. Leo Stone had recently netted two penalties against Sporting Khalsa. Stone stepped up but his penalty crashed against the bar and out for a goal kick. A kick in the teeth for The Greenbacks.

Not too long after the penalty miss, Shepshed took the lead to tub salt in the Bedworth wounds. The ball fell to Shaquile Masters on the edge of the box and he curled in a brilliant shot into the corner that Dan Crane couldn’t do anything about to make 1-0 after 56 minutes.

Bedworth had a chance to level on the 79th minute. A great cross from Morley was attacked by Chris Cox but his header looped just over the crossbar.

With pressure building Bedworth were looking to capitalise but on the 83rd minute., The Greenbacks were reduced to ten men. Murphy sprinted at full pace to latch on to a knock on by Burke, but keeper Brand Ganley came out to intercept and Ganley and Murphy collided and what looked like a fair 50/50 challenge. However, the referee deemed the tackle from Murphy dangerous and was given a straight red card.

Despite going down to ten men, Bedworth had a glorious chance to equalise. A dangerous cross from Grocott landed at the feet of Kory Burke who scissor struck his volley just wide from close range.

Although The Greenbacks kept on pushing till the end, Shepshed defended valiantly and shut out Bedworth till the final whistle. An even game where a missed penalty changed the game for The Greenbacks and a red card that damaged the chance of a comeback.
