The Games Gone!

The young greenbacks lined up again yesterday morning against a Diamonds Academy team that always manage to score. The challenge was to continue performing well as a shuffled team and to keep a clean sheet.

A good warm up and back into the changing room to get ready for the game. Plenty of time to get the plan clear and put on shinpads that are smaller than a match box. What’s that about??

The game started brightly with Bedworth enjoying most of the possession while moving the ball to create space and assess opposition resistance. There was plenty of opportunity to come in the next 90 minutes.

Space opened up frequently and on the 6th minute, West found himself one-on-one with the keeper, before slotting it home.

Further good interplay got us behind the defensive line and two tap-ins were presented to Baker on the 11th and 22nd minutes which he converted to make the score 3-0, with only a quarter of the playing time gone.

What followed was a difficult period for the coaching staff as the game settled down but frustratingly, Bedworth continued to be really wasteful in front of goal. There were some absolute howlers but we won’t mention any names…

Stepovers, Pink boots, back heel passes, players pretending to be hurt and posh water drunk from a can were all witnessed before the half-time whistle came to the rescue. What’s that about??

HALF TIME: Bedworth United U21’s 3 – 0 Diamonds Academy U21’s

The half-time team talk was inclusive and centred on the need to move the ball quicker and be resolute in keeping the clean sheet.

The second half picked up where the first half left off with Bedworth enjoying the majority of possession but continuing to be wasteful in front of goal.

The substitutes started to roll on and off but the boys remained organised and consistent.

Late in the game on the 80th minute, Newton found himself clear of the defence with the ball at his feet and he took his opportunity well to score, as did Bah who picked the ball up on the inside right before driving forward beyond defenders to score hard and low on the 88th minute.

Overall, a good result despite the Acqua Libra posh water scandal. The Games Gone!

We go again next week.
