Charlie Chooses BUFC

Bedworth Utd Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of 16 year old Charlie Donaldson who goes straight into the 1st team squad for tomorrow’s home fixture against Hinckley Leicester Road FC at the Bedworth Oval Stadium (subject to league approval). The exciting winger has impressed 1st Team Manager Stuart Storer and 1st Team Head Coach Jamie Lenton since joining in the summer.

Charlie has enrolled onto the Bedworth United Full-Time Academy Scholarship Programme, which is building a reputation for being the best Football Education Academy in the area to develop young aspiring football players. Charlies twin brother Matthew, has also agreed terms to join Bedworth Utd as an Academy Scholar, and has impressed with both players sealing a place in Bedworth United U18s and Reserve team squads.

1st team Head Coach and Academy Manager Jamie Lenton is extremely pleased to have signed the twins, stating;

‘I have known about the potential of Charlie and Matthew for quite a while now, and I’m over the moon that they have committed to the Academy Scholarship Programme to continue their football development here at Bedworth Utd.’

Bedworth fought off tough competition from other Academies who often fail to deliver what they promise. Jamie added;

‘We have an extremely bespoke set-up here at Bedworth Utd, where the 1st team Management work within the Academy structure, therefore we are heavily involved in the development and progression of young players. With myself and Stu being qualified teachers as well as Uefa A Licence coaches, it allows us to nurture, advise and manage the development of young players like Charlie and Matthew, as well as Harvey Westwood and Logan Elliot, who all have the potential to play at a very good level within the game. The facilities here at Bedworth Utd are excellent and the player pathway the Academy offers allows players to progress to university degree courses, USA Scholarships and if they’re good enough, eventually Bedworth Utd 1st team.’

The Bedworth Utd Academy Programme is linked to ‘Future Lions’ who own several international clubs including USA MLS South Bend Lions, which offers excellent progression routes to the USA.

Its been a great week for Academy graduate Charlie, who collected his GCSE results on Thursday, achieving GCSE pass grades in English, maths and Sport, and now signing 1st team forms for the club;

‘I’m so pleased to be at Bedworth Utd and I love playing my football here. I’m excited to be involved with the 1st team squad tomorrow but I know I‘ve got a lot work to do to establish myself as a 1st team regular. My main focus is to play well for the Academy, the u18s and the reserves and keep getting better. The coaches here are excellent. Jamie, Stu, Reece and Robbie Brannan have supported my transition into the Academy brilliantly’.

Charlie eventually wants to play his football in the USA with a Scholarship in the states;

‘The Academy will help me to gain a high level of education, which will hopefully allow me to progress to a Scholarship in USA with their links to America. I’m looking forward to playing in the Future Lions Academy League and the exposure with the showcase matches against other pro academies’

Charlie has already caught the attention of several professional clubs including Brighton and Hove Albion, which ironically is where Bedworth United 1st team manager Stu Storer is hailed a local hero for scoring the most important goal in the clubs history to secure their football league status in 1997. Stu Storer enjoyed a successful 20 year career as a professional footballer with Brighton, Everton, Birmingham, Wigan and Bolton, continuing his playing career into non-league before becoming a manager. Stu added;

‘To see young players like Charlie and Matthew joining the Bedworth Utd Academy and progress through the ranks here is something we have worked extremely hard to develop over a number of years. We work strategically with every section of the football club to ensure we have the best model in the area for young footballers all based at the Bedworth Oval Stadium. The chairman is passionate about continuing to grow the club in a sustainable manner, which means we are heavily invested in the development of young football players in order to assist the clubs progression up the non-league football pyramid.’

Bedworth Utd Academy have seen several young players progress into their 1st team including; Harvey Westwood, Logan Elliot, Elliot Parrott, James Sanderson, Jack Wells, Ethan Baynham, Lewis Alton, Daniel Moore and many more.
