Bedworth United v Newcastle Town (FA Cup Replay)

With honours even on Saturday Bedworth will now host fellow Northern Premier League, step 4 side Newcastle Town in the Emirates FA Cup at The OVAL on Tuesday night.  With both sides now knowing a lot more about each other it promises to be a tasty encounter.

Newcastle will be buoyed by the return of skipper James Askey after serving his suspension for his sending off in the league game against Witton Albion.  Newcastle were due to play Widnes in a league fixture tomorrow night but as The Greenbacks fixture against Hinckley LRFC this will now be rescheduled.

Newcastle Town Manager Robbie Van der Laan said after the initial game “We should have won the game, in the second half we should have had a penalty; it was a blatant penalty that the referee didn’t give because our player stayed on his feet and was too honest Sometimes these games are very cagey; we would have lost this a year ago, two years ago even, but we’ve just matured as a group so much more and the quality is there for everyone to see.”

Bedworth go into the game with the only doubt being Joseph Smith who was injured in the game against Halesowen.  Stu Storer said after the first game “Had we taken the chance we had at 1 nil to double the lead then I believe we would have gone on to win the game but that is football and as in previous games if we fail to take them chances then the opportunity for teams to get back into games is always going to be there.  I was pleased with the players attitude and desire on Saturday  and I am sure if we show that level again then we will come away on Tuesday and be in the next round.”

The winners of tomorrows game will be rewarded with a visit to Marston Road home of Northern Premier League Premier Division side Stafford Rangers who come into this seasons competition for the first time as a number of step 3 clubs do in the first qualifying round .  The tie will be played on Saturday 3rd September.

Tuesday nights game will be an all pay game on the cost on the gate will be Adult £10, Concessions £7.  Season Tickets and any normal passes will not be accepted under any circumstances.
