Bedworth United v Berkhamsted

Bedworth hosted Berkhamsted at The Oval looking to keep their recent run of results going against a Berkhamsted side looking to keep in touch with leaders Halesowen.  With manager Stuart Storer missing due to other commitments it was Jamie Lenton and Andy Penny in the dugout for the Greenbacks.  Things couldn’t have started better for them when in the 8th minute a cross from Dudley on the Bedworth right was met by Rowe at the far past who nodded the ball back to Truslove who hit a left footed volley past Leon to give the Greenbacks the lead.  The advantage only lasted 3 minutes when Lacey hit a free kick from the left which evaded everyone in the Bedworth penalty area and Chamberlain got the slightest of touches and the ball ended up just inside Cranes far post to even the score. On 36 minutes the turn around was complete after a cross into the Bedworth box fell kindly to Olajuba who fired the ball into the Greenbacks goal from 8 yards out.  Bedworth were unlucky not to equalise when a Rowe cross was met by Keen at the far post but the Bedworth strikers shot hit the post and trickled to safety.  Bedworth though did get their equaliser in first half injury time when a goalkick from Crane held up in the wind and Truslove made the most of it with a chip over the advancing Leon to send the teams in at half time all square.

Half Time Bedworth United 2 Berkhamsted 2

Bedworth started the second half the better of the 2 teams with some sustained pressure.  Berkhamsted though defended resolutely and looked to play on the counter attack trying to find leagues top scorer Toomey with long balls that the Bedworth defence easily dealt with.   With the game drawing to a close it was Berkhamsted though that come the closest to breaking the deadlock when a low cross from Chamberlain just went past the outstretched foot of Toomey and went harmlessly out for a goalkick. Deep into injury time Lacey hit a dipping volley for the visitors that flew just over the Bedworth bar. A second half that didn’t live up to the first ended with honours even at the final whistle in an entertaining game which both teams could have won but ultimately the points were shared with both teams ruing missed chances.
