Bedworth United U16 MJPL v Aylestone Park U16

Bedworth United played host to last seasons league winners Aylestone Park in our first home game of the season at the Oval.

Bedworth United started the game in the same fashion as the previous week as they looked to take hold of the game early doors and stamp their authority on the game.

Some good work from Finn laying the ball off for Dunny who fired a decent shot just over the bar.

Bedworth continued to press well and  playing some great football with Max getting the better of his man but unable to get the shot away.

The Bedworth midfield worked tirelessly to retain possession preventing Aylestone finding any rhythm and this work provided Dunny with another opportunity and he fired a shot straight at the keeper.

Aylestone went on the attack and forced a great save from Dan diving away to his left.

The Bedworth defence were coping well and Nathan put in some good tackles on the right hand side.

Bedworth went back on the attack with Ciaran and Cole combining to release Max who fired a cracking shot which had the Aylestone keeper at full stretch to make a save.

Finally Bedworth made the breakthrough in the 28th minute, a free kick being awarded just inside Aylestone’s half, Lewis put the ball into the box and with the defence unable to clear their lines the hard working Marshall popped up to steer the ball past the keeper and in to the net 1-0.

The 2nd half saw Aylestone come out fired up to get themselves back into the game Bedworth dealt with this well and continued to close down the play.

Finn played a great ball to put Bryn through on goal and his shot was saved by the keeper.

Aylestone went on the attack to try and force a way back into the game and got in behind the defence the striker went around Dan however Nathan was covering and cleared the attempt off the line.

Chris surged into the Aylestone’s box from the right hand side and played a delightful ball across six yard box with Liam just Inches away from connecting.

Bedworth continued to look for the second goal and a ball out from the back was flicked on well by Bryn and this saw Liam through on goal and the defender brought him down and the referee awards a penalty, Liam stepped up and fired the penalty wide of the post.

Aylestone went on the attack down the left hand-side and a cross was sent in to the box  which this time was not dealt with by the defence and the Aylestone forward scored a scrappy goal to bring the scores level at 1-1.

With the clock ticking down and only one minute remaining, Finn surged forward turning three Aylestone defenders inside out  and then showing composure with an outstanding finish past the keeper to win the game 2-1.

This was a great all round team performance and well deserved result in what looks to be a very promising season, Man Of The Match was awarded to both Finn and Nathan.
