Bedworth United U15 Lions v Bedworth United U15 Jnrs

The draw for the Bedworth Nursing Cup unfortunately saw both U15 Bedworth teams drawn against each other at the quarter final stage.  The eagerly anticipated derby game created a buzz around the club and outside amongst the lads themselves.  With both teams having a 100% record so far in the season there was a lot on the line.  With the Lions being in the league above on paper they were the favourites but being a cup game that meant nothing as local bragging rights were at stake.  The Lions were boosted by the return of Raees and newly signed Owen Evans came into the team.

The Lions started the game quick after robbing the Juniors of the ball from kick off they were awarded a free kick just outside the box which John Patten duly dispatched to give the Lions the perfect start,  more goals followed as the Lions played some of their best football this season.  The juniors though did have a couple of chances one whistling just past Harrisons post and one going over.  The juniors did get in on the scoring action when after Harrison came out rushing out to clear a through ball brought down the Juniors player and duly received a yellow card which was the correct decision as the attacker was heading away from goal and the defence had covered Harrison.  Kielan fresh from his scoring exploits on Saturday for the U15 MJPL side dispatched the free kick and gave the Juniors something to cheer about.  It was a new experience for us as well being the away team, using the away dressing room, being in the away dugout and warming up on the other side of the pitch and playing in Red at The OVAL, we did have to stop ourselves at times encouraging the greens.

Half time Bedworth Lions 5 – 1 Bedworth Juniors

The Lions started the second half in much the same vein as they played the first adding a further 6 goals to their score.  The juniors could not cope with the way the Lions were playing and I am sure that the Juniors defence will be having nightmares about Kyle, John P, Raees and Travis for the next week, The juniors though did manage to get another back with 4 minutes to play but it was all to litte to late for the juniors.

Full Time Bedworth Lions 11 – 2 Bedworth Juniors

Scorers Raees x4

             Kyle x4

             John P x2

             Owen E x1

The Coaching staff did their upmost to keep the lads relaxed and any pressure off them we treated it like any other game.  We knew that the juniors would have loved to get one over us but the lads responded themselves.  In previous weeks we have said when things click we will end up beating a team heavily and it seemed that today was the day that the lads clicked. We now progress to the semi final where we will face either Cov Sphinx from the A league or St Finbars from the B league we are just waiting on their result as their game this weekend was postponed due to the weather.  On this performance we should not fear any team and should be aiming to get as far in this competition as we should.

Next Sunday we face Rugby Valley Spartans in the league they currently sit 2nd one point above us but having played 2 more games.
