Semi-Final: Bedworth Utd Reserves v Jet Blade Reserves
A very youthful Greenbacks Reserve team, with an average age of 18, ran out winners on penalties, against a far more experienced Jet Blades Reserve team, after the enthralling match had finished 3-3, courtesy of a last minute Bedworth equaliser.
Bedworth started the game well, but against the run of play, Jet Blades scored two goals in two minutes, midway through the first half. A very determined Bedworth team deservedly got themselves back in to the game before halftime with Captain Sam Shuttleworth scoring from close range, following a goalmouth scramble.
The second half started in dramatic fashion, with Bedworth goalkeeper Logan Elliott making an athletic goal line clearance, immediately followed by halftime substitute, Harvey Westwood, outpacing the Jet Blades defence with a run from the halfway line, before calmly slotting home the goal to make it 2-2 in the 47th minute.
Jet Blades restored their advantage with 25 minutes to go, scoring from a well delivered corner.
Bedworth applied constant pressure for the remainder of the game, but as the clock ticked into the 90th minute, it looked like their efforts would be in vain. However, a well delivered corner from Matthew Donaldson was emphatically finished at the back post by centre back Jamie Flounders.
Stoppage time was played out and the final whistle blew with the score 3-3.
With no extra time, the game went straight to penalties.
With one excellent save from keeper Logan Elliott, plus one miss from a Jet Blades player, Bedworth scored all 4 of their first 4 penalties, winning them the game, without needing to take their fifth penalty.
The penalty scorers were:
Man of the Match was central midfielder Fin Ward.
The Greenbacks Reserves are now looking forward to the final, on Good Friday, 29th March.
