Academy Match – Bedworth United v Northampton Town

We will be hosting our 2nd Future Lions Academy ‘representative’ game against Northampton Town Academy at the Bedworth Oval Stadium on Monday 4th March, 2pm.kick off. Previous opponents include Oxford Utd, Aston Villa and Leicester Academies.

Bedworth Utd Academy are part of the Future Lions Education group, who play in the Future Lions Academy League programme on a Wednesday morning. There are currently around 12 grassroots football clubs who form the FL Academy including Bedworth Utd FC, Kettering Town FC, Tamworth FC, Lichfield City FC, Kirby Muxloe FC and Beaumont Leys FC who are part of DeMontfort University Group. We have also invited several other Academies this season such as Leamington FC, Strachan Foundation, Future Pro, and Quorn, to form a cup competition.

The Future Lions ‘representative’ team is made up of players who have excelled this season during the Future Lions Academy League fixtures. Players who have been selected for this game include Charlie Donaldson, Matthew Donaldson, Logan Elliot and Harvey Westwood.

All 4 players have had excellent seasons so far within the Academy League and our u18s MFL (who currently sit top of the premier league). We are starting to see the benefits of the Academy and our u18s, as well as the u21s, with several young players being involved with the 1st team this season.

The development of young, local football players for a set-up like Bedworth Utd FC is absolutely essential to the direction the football club wants to go. Our vision is to produce good, local footballers who have progressed through the ranks at Bedworth Utd FC to eventually have the ability levels and the strength, both physically and mentally to represent our 1st team. For all young football players this process takes time, as well as hard work, commitment, discipline, patience and a support network made up from parents/grandparents, coaches, school teachers and friends.

We are very excited about the young players we have coming through the ranks at the club and we hope that we will see more young players like Charlie, Matthew, Logan and Harvey making their 1st team debuts over the next few years.

Our Academy is currently recruiting for September 2024 with new applications being received weekly. We are only looking to recruit 30 players for the new academic year, so if you are interested please contact Academy Manager and 1st team Head Coach Jamie Lenton jlentonacademy@bedworthunitedfc.co.uk
