MATCH REPORT: Bedworth United 3-1 Darlaston Town

Bedworth United fight back from 1-0 down to beat Darlaston Town 3-1 at The Oval to secure all three points after an action packed second half.

It was a slow start to the game as neither side could really dictate the play and create any meaningful chances within the first 15 minutes.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors on the 20th minute. A snapshot from Kieran Cook from distance looked to threaten the Bedworth goal but O’Brien saw the ball go comfortably wide.

The Greenbacks responded with their own chance. Luke Rowe and Leo Stone combined well to create space down the left, with Leo Stone cutting on his right and curled his effort on goal but was straight at keeper James Storer.

Quick feet from Stone created The Greenbacks next chance. He drove past a couple of players into the Darlaston box, and put through George Dunkley, he then set up Williams Grocott but his shot deflected just wide.

From the following corner, Ryan Shaw had an effort that was cleared off the line.

But on the stroke of half time, the visitors had the best chance of the game. Bedworth struggled to clear the ball from danger and Darlaston worked themselves into a good position as Leo Wood got his shot away from a tight angle which whistled just wide of the post. That chance brought to an end a scrappy first half encounter.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United 0-0 Darlaston Town

The second half started in the same way as the first half, with both sides struggling to put their stamp on the match.

However on the 65rh minute, Darlaston took the lead. A through ball down the left beat the Bedworth high line and offside trap and had plenty of time for Aaron Bishop to pull the ball back from the byline to the edge of the box where striker Kieron Cook placed his shot past O’Brien to make it 1-0.

After going 1-0 down, The Greenbacks had to step their play up a couple of gears, and they did just that only 2 minutes after conceding. Will Grocott did well to work the ball out wide to Stone, he picked out the supporting run of Deseqn Martin who curled a brilliant left footed effort into the top right corner from the edge of the box to equalise for The Greenbacks. A brilliant goal to make it 1-1.

Things were to get better for Bedworth as they took the lead through Leo Stone. Darlaston failed to clear their lines and Dunkley was able to take advantage of this. He won the ball back in the Darlaston box and laid it off to Stone. The winger cut insdie and dinked a brilliant shot from the 18 yard area over James Storer to give Bedworth the lead on 75 minutes.

The Greenbacks lost concentration though and nearly threw away their lead just moments after. A high cross into the back post was attacked by substitute Elimelech Enyan, whose header went agonisingly wide from only a couple of yards out. A let off for Bedworth.

Darlaston were made to pay for not taking that chance as The Greenbacks were able to extend their lead through Elliot Parrott.

Will Grocott delivered a brilliant in-swinging corner which Parrott was able to meet and head home, despite a couple of Darlaston defenders on the line trying to clear. A great header from Parrott to make it 3-1, which also marked the first time this season Bedworth have scored 3 goals in a match.

The final chance of the game came in the final few minutes as the visitors came close again. Tyler Bruck beat a couple of Bedworth defenders and got his shot away from inside the box but his effort hit the side netting.

Full time and it was a much needed win and performance from The Greenbacks. After going a goal down, confidence could have easily dropped, but the hosts battled back well to earn 3 points and climb up the league to 13th.
