MATCH REPORT: Bedworth United 1-3 Quorn

Despite a promising first half, The Greenbacks were unable to hold onto their lead as unbeaten title chasers Quorn come from behind to take all three points.

Bedworth United started the game brilliantly and should have been 2-0 within the first 5 minutes, with both chances falling to George Dunkley.

Leo Stone flicked the ball into Jonathan Letford who teed up Dunkley but his shot from 12 yards was denied by the legs of Tom Allsopp.

Dunkley created his second chance through his determination and high pressure. The pacey winger latched upon a defensive mistake from Quorn and raced through on goal but his effort clipped the post and out for a goal kick.

But on the 10 minute mark, The Greenbacks grabbed a deserved opener. Quorn keeper Allsopp failed to deal with a corner and Dunkley, involved again, lashed his volleyed towards goal but was deflected in off Desean Martin and in the back of the net. 1-0.

Quorn started to grow into the game and began to dominate possession. The visitors created limited chances but had a good opportunity to level midway through the first half.

Jordan Clarke wriggled his way past Alex Dean, and chopped back inside to get a shot off with his stronger right foot but Bedworth keeper Liam O’Brien did brilliantly to close down the angle and make himself big to deny Clark from levelling.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United 1-0 Quorn

The Reds started much quicker in the second half and were dominant throughout. Quorn managed to bring the game to level terms from the penalty spot on 56th minute. Desean Martin brought down Cain Noble inside the box, after a late challenge from the Bedworth goal scorer. Player/Manager Ryan Beswick stepped up and tucked the penalty past O’Brien, who went the same way but the ball was too far in the corner to reach. 1-1

The visitors were well on top and took the lead 6 minutes later. Zak Goodson swung in a great free kick to the back post where Ryan Beswick was there to tap in from 6 yards. 1-2.

Bedworth were really struggling to get back into the game as Quorn were able to dominate the ball and kept creating chances.

One of those chances were eventually taken and Quorn extended their lead on the 73rd minute. Courey Grantham delivered a cross to the back post to the unmarked Goodson, he had two attempts at goal blocked but it was third time lucky where he found more space to get his shot away which curled into the bottom corner.

Bedworth had half chances to try and get back into the game through a Luke Rowe free kick and a long range effort from Mitch Candlin but nothing to worry Allsopp too much.

The last chance of the game went to the visitors. A decent ball drifted in from the right and substitute Jack York leaped highest but his header cannoned off the crossbar and out.

The full time whistle blew and despite a spirited first half performance from The Greenbacks where the hosts deservedly lead and could have had at least two more, the second half was a poor display mixed with Quorn really stepping up a couple of notches which showed why they are still unbeaten in the league. Injuries may have also hampered Bedworth with Ryan Shaw and Williams Grocott both going off.

Bedworths next match is Saturday 9th November to face Darlaston at The Oval.
