Match Report: Bedworth United 0-4 Coleshill Town

The Greenbacks fall to a disappointing defeat to Coleshill Town as the visitors cruise to a 4-0 victory.

Bedworth started the better side and were the more positive team in the first half and could have taken an early lead on through Jonathan Letford. A long throw by Rowe wasn’t dealt with by the Coleshill defence and the ball bounced around, eventually falling to Letford but his volley was straight at the keeper.

Coleshill had a chance to open the lead minutes later. A long pass put Alex Tomkinson through on goal and his effort was cleared off the line by Ryan Moore.

Dexter Walters was looking dangerous as usual and causing Coleshill problems. The winger had a couple of good opportunities to open his account for the evening but spurned both of his chances. Elliot Parrott also tried his luck from range but Coleshill keeer Clarkson was able to push away.

Despite Bedworth being the more settled side, Coleshill had a great chance to score but was  denied by debutant Dom Roggero from close range, spreading his body well to close the angle of Joe Palmers shot.

But on the stroke of half time, the visitors took the lead in an unorthodox way. A long throw from Gio Dainty appeared to go all the way in from his long throw with no player seemingly getting a touch on the ball. The goal should have been disallowed but the officials must have seen a touch from a player to allow the goal. But nevertheless, The Greenbacks headed into half time 1-0 down.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United 0-1 Coleshill Town

Bedworth were rightly gutted to go into the interval a goal down after putting in a solid first half performance, but what came in the second half was a disappointing collapse of resilience and confidence.

Coleshill doubled their lead very early on in the second half. A rare mistake from Steph Morley gifted Alex McSkeane to get his first goal of the evening. A poor square bass across his own 18 yard box was latched upon by McSkeane who had an empty net to tuck his shot into comfortably. 2-0 after 51 minutes.

The second goal for Coleshill really affected the confidence of The Greenbacks and things went from bad to worse as McSkeane picked up his second and The Coleman’s third. The forward picked the ball up just outside the area and lashed a powerful low shot that had driven past Roggero in goal and bounced in off the post to make it 3-0 to Coleshill on 54 minutes.

It was to be a rough opening 15 minutes for Roggero as Coleshill grabbed a fourth. A shot from distance by Isak Adegoke looked like it was going to be a comfortable save for Roggero but the keeper was rooted to his spot as the ball hit the back of the net, with seemingly little or no deflection on the ball. A tough one to take for Roggero on his first start for the club, with possibly showing a lack of match sharpness to react to the shot. 4-0 with 30 minutes still to play.

From then on, Coleshill were dominant and controlled the tempo of the game with Bedworth showing little threat to a consolation goal at the very least. Harry Craven could have notched a couple of goals in on his debut for The Colemen but both his efforts went over.

Jonathan Letford had The Greenbacks only meaningful chance in the second half, as the forward won the ball back in the oppositions penalty area, he had the bottom corner on his sights but he dragged his shot just wide, hitting the side netting.

The full time whistle went and a disappointing evening came to a close for Bedworth. A solid first half performance but the game swung after the opener and then the early second half goal really killed the game. Coleshill were deserving of the victory but the scoreline slightly flattered the visitors.
