Bedworth United 2–1 Grantham Town

Northern Premier League – Midlands Division Bedworth United returned to winning ways at The Oval on Tuesday evening, battling back from a goal down to defeat ten-man Grantham Town 2–1 and end a three-match winless run in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

The Greenbacks started on the front foot, taking the game to the visitors from the opening whistle. However, Grantham carved out the first clear opening of the match via a dangerous free kick just outside the penalty area on the right flank. Bedworth keeper Lomax was called into immediate action, producing a superb double save to keep the scores level.

Despite Bedworth controlling large periods of possession, Grantham proved lethal on the break. In the 41st minute, a swift counter-attack caught the home defense off guard, allowing Louis Czerwak space inside the box. Czerwak’s effort found a route through traffic and past Lomax to give the visitors a lead heading into the break.

Bedworth emerged for the second half with renewed energy and did not have to wait long for their reward. In the 51st minute, sustained pressure in the Grantham penalty area resulted in a goal-mouth scramble, with George Dunkley reacting sharpest to turn the ball home and equalize.

Six minutes later, the game reached its main talking point. Dunkley drove aggressively down the left wing before being brought down near the edge of the box. The referee initially indicated a call in Grantham’s favor, but the assistant referee immediately flagged for a foul to Bedworth. Following a mid-pitch consultation between the match officials, the decision was overturned to give Bedworth the free kick, and Grantham’s Osakpolor Solomon was shown a straight red card. With a numerical advantage and momentum fully on their side, Bedworth pushed relentlessly for a winning goal. The breakthrough arrived in the 76th minute when Teddy Rowe controlled the ball inside the penalty box and swept a neat finish into the bottom corner.

Rowe came close to doubling his tally shortly after as Bedworth created a flurry of late chances. Grantham threatened to snatch an unlikely point during seven minutes of added time when a close-range chance was blazed high over the bar, but the Greenbacks held firm to seal a deserved victory.
