Bedworth United return to cup action on Saturday afternoon as we make the short trip to Boldmere St Michaels in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
The Greenbacks will be looking to put another positive cup performance together as we head to the Amber Arena, with a place in the next round at stake.
THE OPPOSITION
Boldmere have made a solid start to the 2026/27 campaign and come into Saturday’s tie having progressed in the Emirates FA Cup earlier this week.
The Mikes defeated Bourne Town 2-1 in their First Qualifying Round replay on Tuesday night, securing their place in the next round of the competition. That result followed a 1-1 draw away at Bourne Town on Saturday.
Boldmere have also impressed at home this season, including a 5-0 opening-night victory over Carlton Town, and will provide another tough test for the Greenbacks.
GREENBACKS LOOKING TO RESPOND
Bedworth head into the tie after Wednesday night’s 2-1 defeat away at Corby Town in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.
Matthew Shipman got on the scoresheet for Bedworth at Steel Park, but two goals from the hosts ultimately saw Corby take all three points.
Prior to that result, the Greenbacks had put together a strong run of results, including victories over Coleshill Town, Shepshed Dynamo and Coventry United, alongside a goalless draw away at Basford United.
The FA Trophy now provides an opportunity for the squad to respond quickly and return to winning ways.
A FAMILIAR OPPONENT
There is plenty of recent history between these two sides, with Boldmere having narrowly edged a number of competitive encounters.
Last season, Boldmere recorded a 3-2 victory at The Oval in September before Bedworth gained revenge with a 2-1 win over the Mikes in December.
Saturday’s meeting promises another competitive encounter between two sides who know each other well.
Previous Meetings
The two sides have met nine times since 2014, with Bedworth United holding a slight advantage overall.
Bedworth have recorded three wins, Boldmere St Michaels have won three, while the remaining three meetings have ended in draws. The most recent encounter went the way of the Greenbacks, with Bedworth running out 2-1 winners at Boldmere in December 2025.
The last five meetings have been particularly close, producing two wins apiece and one draw. Goals have also been a feature, with 22 scored across the nine fixtures.
Bedworth’s biggest win in the fixture came in the 2014 FA Cup First Qualifying Round, when the Greenbacks recorded a 3-0 victory away from home.
The overall record from the nine meetings is:
- Bedworth United wins: 3
- Boldmere St Michaels wins: 3
- Draws: 3
- Goals: Bedworth 12β10 Boldmere
- Last meeting: Boldmere St Michaels 1-2 Bedworth United, December 2025
The head-to-head record suggests another closely contested encounter when the sides meet again.
CUP FOOTBALL
Cup football can bring a different dynamic, with every challenge, tackle and opportunity carrying extra significance.
For Bedworth, the objective will be clear: produce a disciplined performance, compete from the first whistle and give ourselves every chance of progressing in the FA Trophy.
With both clubs having already enjoyed success in the FA Cup this season, there is plenty to play for as the two sides meet under the lights of the cup competition.
