M6 Derby goes eastbound
The Greenbacks suffered their first defeat of the season against Rugby Borough on Tuesday evening. Both teams came into this fixture unbeaten in the league with Rugby having scored 6 in 2 games, whilst Bedworth only scoring 2.
The game started more in Rugby’s favour with 2 chances going begging before an attack started on the right hand side with York receiving the ball just after the halfway line, getting the better of Craven and crossing to the 6 yard box corner where Dube poked it past Lomax to score his second of the season. This seemed to galvanise the greenbacks and start to put pressure on the Rugby but the defence held firm.
The second half produced much of the same with Bedworth attacking, Rugby defending but only clearing as far as the halfway line. The pressure finally paid off in the 71st minute, when Mringi was brought down cutting across the defender. Christofaro on the right of the D took the free kick. It took a deflection, but thankfully for the Greenbacks, it caught the keeper wrong footed and floated into the net. However, the lead for Rugby was regained 4 minutes later. Another free kick from a decision from the referee which looked like Willis was pulled down but given to Rugby. Shorrock positioned the ball just further out than the one 4 minutes earlier. Shorrock shot through the wall and bit bounced of the inside of the right-hand post into the net. Both teams tried to capitalise on each other’s mistakes but the 3 points end up down the M6.
Our next home game is against Coventry United on Monday 31st August at 15.00
