Rushall Olympic U21’s 0 – 1 Bedworth United U21’s
The young Greenbacks lined up Saturday morning against a Rushall team that had not lost a game all season having played 13 games, winning twelve and drawing one.
The game started brightly with both teams testing each other’s defences. Bedworth were slightly stronger as we tested the Rushall keeper more early on.
Another strong defensive performance where balls over were intercepted, balls through were blocked, and runs around were prevented, was great to see, as Rushall became increasingly frustrated at not being able to achieve the results that they have done, throughout the season so far.
The Greenbacks continued to stifle attacks and then aggressively counter-attack a proactive Rushall who had set up with three in defence. Lots of space on the wings and a hard-working pair through the middle created plenty of opportunities but again we were wasteful in front of goal.
The half time team talk centred on the need to maintain composure and continue with a mature and organised approach to the game. We needed to frustrate the opposition and win the game mentally before we won it physically HALF TIME: Rushall Olympic U21’s 0 – 0 Bedworth United U21’s
As expected, Rushall started the second-half with a high tempo and their substitutes started to flow on and off the pitch.
The control off the game continued from Bedworth who enjoyed numerical superiority as various Rushall players were given 10 minutes out in the sin-bin
On the 75th minute a pass from Lewis found Stenton’s feet, who then took it past Rushall defenders before slotting it coolly under the keeper to give Bedworth a well-deserved lead.
The boys continued to manage the game in a mature and professional manner to ensure three points were brought back to the Oval.
