Match Report – Bedworth United U21’s  2 – 0 Coalville Town U21’s

Bedworth United U21’s  2 – 0 Coalville Town U21’s

Bedworth U21’s continue their winning start to the season.

After last week’s fantastic performance against Bilston U21’s, a changed squad had the opportunity to continue The Greenbacks unbeaten run against Coalville town U21’s.

Unfortunately, Coalville started much the brighter team, moving the ball around, pushing high through the Bedworth lines and causing problems for our back four and holding midfielders. The Bedworth boys dug in and worked hard when out of possession, holding their shape against a very fluid Coalville set up. Good communication and solid commitment managed to keep the ball out of the Bedworth net.

When our boys had the ball, we didn’t move it as well as we know we can, and we sacrificed good possession in and around the Coalville penalty area. We looked to the officials for a number of obvious fouls that weren’t coming, but that was our fault as we were caught in possession by a very hard-working Coalville team.

The breakthrough for Bedworth came from a change in the fashionable, tippy-tappy “Pep Guardiola style” football, when a good old-fashioned route one pass from Makitadi broke the defensive lines, and found a sprinting Middleton in clear space behind the Coalville back four.

One on one with the keeper, there was never a doubt as Middleton found the inside of the Coalville net. Not only was this good news for The Greenbacks but also for Middleton who would have faced a stiff financial penalty for this miss, under the new fine’s rules agreed amongst players this week. 😉

The game continued end to end with both teams enjoying periods of possession without much end product on goal.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United 1 – 0 Coalville Town

Makitadi made way for Smith at half time, and along with a small change in our midfield shape, but the game continued very much like the first half with both teams working really hard to cancel each other out.

A triple substitution for Coalville, along with Bedworth’s Bah, Clarke and Lenton, coming on for Elliott, Middleton and Stenton opened the game up in the final 30 minutes.

Good pressure from Bedworth saw us spend more time in and around the Coalville penalty area and after one particular scramble, Stenton popped up to poke the ball past the flailing Coalville keeper from 2 yards out.

The boys have a big test at home next Saturday morning as we face Brocton U21 again. Brocton were a very strong team just three months ago when we overcame them in the Semi Final, and hopefully Stenton can continue his scoring streak.
